5700 SF; Completed in 2006
Two new lobbies centered on the east and west façades usher visitors and staff into the building. Conceived as glass cubes, the lobbies push outward into the garden and open onto the central interior hallway. Linking the indoors with the outdoors, the aluminum storefront envelope is topped with flat roofs, which cantilever to shelter the entry doors. The stucco soffits and sheet metal fascia are cued by existing building elements, and fit below the existing roof fascia, expressing the lobbies’ hierarchical import while maintaining human scale and without dominating the building form. These additions update the building’s image, add definition and character, and respect the existing building style.
